The Lumineers recently released the music video for their new single “Brightside,” the lead single from their fourth album of the same name.
Kyle Thrash directed the visual, which runs for four-and-a-half-minutes. It opens with people responding to the question, “What does love mean to you?” and then showcases the love and relationships of people cutting across ages, ethnicity and orientations. The video also shows these couples waltzing around as the band performs the song in an American Legion Hall.
“The ‘Brightside’ music video is like a documentary of the American love story,” says the band’s co-founder Wesley Schultz, “It features all real people – none of the people that appear in it are actors.”
Schultz describes the song as “a 15-year-old’s fever dream, an American love story in all its glory and heartbreak. The last couple left, on the run from something, and all alone.”
The Brightside album is scheduled to be released on January 14, 2022 via Dualtone in the U.S. and Canada and Decca Records for the rest of the world.
