Veteran emcee Kendrick Lamar led this year’s BET Hip Hop Awards winners with four victories.
Lamar won the awards for “Hip Hop Artist of the Year,” “Lyricist of the Year,” “Best Live Performer” and “Video Director of the Year” alongside Dave Free.
Lil Uzi Vert and Metro Boomin tied with two wins each, while Lil Durk and J. Cole also received two awards for their collaboration “All My Life.”
Drake & 21 Savage also won “Hip Hop Album of the Year” for Her Loss as well as “Best Duo or Group.”
Bronx native Ice Spice was crowned this year’s “Best Breakthrough Hip Hop Artist,” while Blak Sherif made his home of Ghana proud, accepting the “Best International Flow” award.
The 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards, hosted by Fat Joe, also featured thrilling performances by artists, including GloRilla, Sexyy Red, T.I., and Jezzy.
Superstar producers and “Verzuz” founders Swizz Beatz and Timbaland accepted the Rock The Bells Cultural Influence Award for their cultural contributions to the genre. The pair later presented hip hop pioneer Marley Marl with the “I Am Hip Hop Award.”
