Halsey Named Songwriter Of The Year At 2021 BMI Pop Awards

Halsey was named Songwriter Of The Year at the 69th annual BMI Pop Awards.

The alt-pop star won the award for having written four of the previous year’s most performed songs – “Nightmare,” “Graveyard,” “Be Kind,” and “You Should Be Sad.”

The haunting fan-favorite “Graveyard” and the biting country-tinged breakup anthem “You Should Be Sad,” the two lead singles from her third album Manic, landed on the Billboard Hot 100.

Released in January 2020, the album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.

Later that year, Halsey dropped the EDM-inspired “Be Kind,” a collaboration with fellow BMI songwriter and hit maker, Marshmello.

The two-time Grammy nominated singer-songwriter released the declarative and empowering single, “Nightmare,” in the lead up to Manic.

With this, Halsey earns her tenth BMI Pop Award. She received accolades for Song of the Year at the 2020 BMI Pop Awards.

Song of the Year was awarded to “The Bones,” co-written by BMI songwriters Laura Veltz and Maren Morris.

Sony Music Publishing received the Publisher of the Year award for the ninth time.

BMI also honored the songwriters, publishers and administrators of the 50 most-performed pop songs of the previous year.
