Alt-pop superstar Billie Eilish addressed a variety of topics during a wide-ranging interview with British Vogue, including her unexpected decision to appear dressed in lingerie on the magazine’s cover.
Eilish, who is known for wearing baggy clothes to avoid comments about her body, surprised some fans with the revealing cover shoot, which included a glimpse at the tattoo on her hip.
“My thing is that I can do whatever I want,” Eilish said in reaction to anticipated criticism of the shots. “It’s all about what makes you feel good.”
“Showing your body and showing your skin — or not — should not take any respect away from you,” she added.
The 19-year-old is also gearing up to release her sophomore album, Happier Than Ever, in July and shared that it marks the beginning of a brand-new era for her; it’s all about being “exactly who you feel like you are and want to be in that moment,” she said.
The singer added that over the past year spent in quarantine, she has “grown so much and gotten so much better in my voice” and that “change is one of the best gifts in the world.”
Eilish spent all of last year with her brother, Finneas, who is a musician himself, swimming, cycling, fighting, eating Taco Bell and working on music in the basement.
The new album is due out on July 30.
