Did you know that the BEST oatmeal cookies come from a recipe just inside the lid of a Quaker Oats can!

Check out the recipe below -

COOKIE MIX

2 1/2  cups all-purpose flour
2  teaspoons salt
1  teaspoon soda
2  cups firmly packed brown sugar
1  cup granulated sugar
1 1/2  cups vegetable shortening
One  18-ounce tube (6 cups) Quaker® Oats (quick or old fashioned, uncooked)

*If using old-fashioned oats, increase flour to 3 cups.

Preparation
Heat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease cookie sheet.

In medium bowl, combine all ingredients. Mix with spoon or fork about 1 minute to form a stiff dough.

Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto prepared cookie sheet. Bake about 15 minutes or until light golden brown.

Cool 1 minute on cookie sheet; remove to wire cooling rack.

Tizzy’s Movie Review: “Green Zone”

March 12th, 2010 by Tizzy

Universal PicturesThis is NOT a Bourne movie.  I repeat, this is not part of the Bourne series.  It’s the same director but completely difference concept.  Now that I got that out of the way, let me say that this movie rocks!  It’s filled with action and political conspiracy, making you question if the events happened in real life or if it’s all just a story.

Matt Damon plays a U.S. Army Officer who’s in charge of finding WMDs in Iraq.  The problem is the sites keep coming up empty, leading him to believe that their source is giving them bogus information.  Cue the dirty politics!

This movie will put you on the edge of your seat and get you all excited to find out what happens next.  I really liked Damon’s character, and Greg Kinnear doesn’t disappoint as a political figure.  And yes, Damon does kick some serious butt!

Who to take to this movie: adults who like action sprinkled with politics

Don’t see this movie if: you’re with a bunch of kids

Tizzy’s Movie Review: “Remember Me”

March 12th, 2010 by Tizzy

Summit EntertainmentRobert Pattinson, best known as the vampire Edward in the “Twilight” series, plays a young man who doesn’t know what he wants to do with his life.  His older brother passed away, he’s no longer close with his dad, and he seems to only enjoy the company of his roommate and younger sister.  He’s always scribbling in some journal, looking meek and careless, but then he meets a young woman who changes everything.

As cheesy as the plot line may seem, it’s actually more of a drama than a romance movie.  What makes the young lovers’ relationship work is the fact that they both know what it’s like to live with the loss of a family member.  Where does the drama lie?  It’s found in their other family members who don’t cope as well as them, creating tumultuous relationships that spiderweb into nasty situations.

I wasn’t expecting it to be so serious.  It’s kind a downer most of the time, and the ending attempts to be uplifting but wasn’t successful in my book.  To me, it gave the message that as soon as everything is right in your life, something bad must happen to keep the balance.

Who to take to this movie: young adults who can separate Robert Pattinson from Edward

Don’t see this movie if: you’re in a goofy mood

Tizzy’s Movie Review: “She’s Out of My League”

March 12th, 2010 by Tizzy

Paramount PicturesNow before you write this one off, hear me out.  It looks like a dumb movie, yes.  It has a lot of crude jokes in it.  But just because it’s more of a stupid movie doesn’t mean it can’t be funny and will make you laugh, right?  This one surprised me, and it may do the same for you!

It’s about a gangly, uncoordinated, low self esteem “nice guy” who starts dating a “hard 10.”  Since she’s super hot, no one believes it’ll last, thus dooming the relationship from the start.  However, the guy is determined to prove his friends wrong.

There are no big names in this one, but I have a feeling some of them will be returning in future comedies.  The lead guy, Jay Baruchel, has been in a few movies beside Seth Rogan (he was the one in “Knocked Up” with the Canadian tattoo), and he impressed me as the main character.  He could hold his own.  His friends were funny too, adding the right balance of laugh out loud one liners without overshadowing Baruchel.

Who to take to this movie: young adults who laugh at low brow comedy

Don’t see this movie if: you only like dry humor

Tizzy’s Movie Review: “Our Family Wedding”

March 12th, 2010 by Tizzy

Scott GarfieldThis romantic comedy is cute, but it’s kind of a one joke pony.  It’s about a Hispanic girl and a black guy who want to get married, but will the tensions between the two families make or break them?  It reminded me a lot of “Guess Who” from 2005 with Ashton Kutcher and Bernie Mac.

The two families are very different from each other.  From personalities to traditions, they’re stubborn to stick to their ways.  This is where a lot of the humor lies, but unfortunately, it just seemed to be the same types of jokes over and over.

Yes, it’s predictable.  There aren’t a ton of laugh out loud moments.  What I did like about it though was the message.  It’s not always romantic love that keeps people together.  That other person in your life is also your best friend, and at the end of the day, it’s that friendship that makes the relationship so strong.  Plus it doesn’t hurt that the lead guy, Marcus (Lance Gross), is one good lookin’ guy!

Who to take to this movie: friends who like romantic comedies

Don’t see this movie if: you’re not in a lovey-dovey mood

The Jane Report 3-11-10

March 11th, 2010 by Jane

1980’s teen heart throb, Corey Haim, died early Wednesday morning.  He was 38. “As he got out of bed, he felt a little weak and collapsed to the floor to his knees,” said Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter. His mother called paramedics who took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Haim, who gained attention for his roles in “Lucas” and “The Lost Boys,” had flulike symptoms before he died and was taking over-the-counter and prescription medications.  Haim has had drug problems in the past. In a 2007 interview on CNN’s “Larry King Live,” Haim called himself “a chronic relapser for the rest of my life.”  As recently as the last ten days, Haim had been approached to appear as part of the cast of “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.” Sources told TMZ that Corey was insulted by the offer and called it the last show he’d ever do…claiming he doesn’t need any help. … Read the rest of this entry »

The Jane Report 3-10-10

March 10th, 2010 by Jane

E*TRADETMZ is reporting that Lindsay Lohan wants $100 million from E*TRADE because she believes their “milkaholic” baby featured in their Super Bowl commercial was modeled after her. The commercial features a baby named Lindsay, who in the spot, is accused of being the “other woman” in a baby love triangle. Lohan has filed the lawsuit in Nassau County Supreme Court in New York claiming that the company violated Lohan’s rights by using her “name and characterization” in business without paying her or getting her approval. Lohan’s lawyer, Stephanie Ovadia, told TMZ it doesn’t matter that the commercial doesn’t mention the name Lohan, adding, “Do you know the name Oprah? Do you know the name Madonna? Same thing.” Adding, “If you look at the commercial as a whole, it’s Lindsay Lohan.” … Read the rest of this entry »

The Giant Puzzle, Part 2

March 9th, 2010 by Dom

About a year ago I gathered some friends and began work on the first section of what will be a 24,000 piece monster. You build it in four separate 6,000 piece sections. The first section was neglected for many months, but I’m proud to say that section two was completed in a sizzling 9 weeks.

If  you wanna take this on yourself, here’s the puzzle’s own site:
http://www.worldslargestpuzzle.com/

And here are a couple of shots from my basement. The second picture gives you a size perspective. This section is 5 feet tall and 3.5 feet wide. When all is said and done, the completed masterpiece will be about 15 feet wide.
