The Jane Report

"Entertainment Weekly's" website put together a montage of some 'iconic' screams from horror movies, just in time for Halloween.  They include screams from movies like "Halloween," "Psycho," "The Shining," "Child's Play," "Carrie," and "Jaws," as well as some new movies, like "The Conjuring."

Jimmy Kimmel had a children's choir on his show last night, to sing a song for all the weird parents who might be thinking about giving out something OTHER than candy tonight.

And Jimmy Fallon talked about the woman from North Dakota who's planning on giving overweight trick-or-treaters a letter instead of candy.  He says they'll give her a letter back, which says, "Toilet paper or eggs?"

Ellen had an eight-year-old music prodigy on her show yesterday.  The girl's name is Alma Deutscher, and not only can she BURN on the violin, but she's also written her own opera.  And she's eight.  Listen to Alma playing "The Bee" by Francois Schubert.

Alma told Ellen about how she came to write an original opera at the age of seven.  She says she dreamed she was hearing an opera by Mozart.  But when she woke up, she remembered the music and realized it was all original.  So she played it on the piano and her father recorded her, before she even wrote it down.

The Jonas Brothers went on "Good Morning America" yesterday to talk about why they had to break up the band. Nick explained what happened.  He said there were a lot of issues in the band that they hadn't been dealing with, and once he confronted his brothers, they got into a discussion which ended with them realizing that they wanted to split up and do individual projects.  He says they just wanted to be brothers first.

Steven Tyler made a pit stop at a Boston-area Olive Garden the other day . . . but it wasn't for some of that authentic Italian cuisine.  He had to URINATE.  An employee says, quote, "He didn't order food, he came in to use the men's room.  I saw his limo when I came in and it was really quiet.  No one recognized him because of the age group of people in here."  After he went into the bathroom, word started going around about who he was, so there were people waiting when he came out.  Another worker says, quote, "He was really cool and took photos."  On his way out he asked for breadsticks, so they gave him some.  And even though they didn't charge him, he did NOT leave a tip.

Kristin Cavallari and Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler are expecting their second child.  There's no word on Kristin's due date. Kristin gave birth to a baby boy just 14 months ago.  They named him Camden.  Kristin Tweeted, quote, "Thank you for all the love!!  We are so excited for Camden to be a big brother!"

Jenny McCarthy is convinced she has one very, very powerful enemy: Oprah Winfrey. Chatting with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live (with very attentive and affectionate boyfriend Donnie Wahlberg at her side), the View cohost, 40, admitted that she's "scared of Oprah." The sardonic blonde explained that she had a falling out with the mega-mogul, 59, after a tentative deal -- McCarthy was to have a talk show on Winfrey's OWN network -- apparently fell through. "I did a deal with her for five years, but we, we kinda shook hands. I would be scared she would beat me up," McCarthy revealed.  When Bravo's Cohen asked McCarthy to clarify what happened with the the deal, she confirmed that "It didn't [work out]," suggesting that she walked away to pursue other interests. "I left. I am terrified . . . I would be like OH NO [if we ran into each other]." "Do you think you're on her 'list'?" Cohen asked. "I'm sure there's probably a lot of people on her sh*t list, but I'm probably number 4," McCarthy estimated.

UPDATE: Oprah replies via Twitter: "@JennyMcCarthy don't have a s--t list If I did you'd never be on it. Wishing you only good fortune, love and light and watching @theview," the 59-year-old media mogul tweeted.

Chris Brown will spend up to 3 MONTHS in a Malibu rehab joint for his anger problems. Sources connected to the singer say there has been no firm decision on the precise length of time Brown will stay, but everyone in Brown's camp -- including Brown himself -- is open to as much as 3 months. One source put it this way ... "The rehab facility has been told to take him [Brown] apart and put him back together." Brown is specifically getting treatment for his anger problem, which manifested itself last weekend when he was arrested for allegedly punching a guy in the face.  And, as we previously reported, Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos, knows it's very likely the judge in the Rihanna case will revoke Brown's probation, which could put him behind prison bars for up to 4 years.  The rehab move is an act of good faith, showing Brown is dealing with his problems.

The Jane Report

Guy Fieri got into a nuclear fight with his hairdresser Saturday ... and it was caught ON VIDEO.  The video shows Ariel Ramirez punching Guy through the open door of the SUV, swearing at him.  You also see Guy kicking him. Ariel is so mad, he cries uncontrollably during the fight.  Although you don't see how the argument ends, we're told Guy threw Ariel out of the SUV.  Guy's manager then jumped out and he took Ariel home by cab.   Sources close to Guy say they were coming from San Francisco International Airport, where they had just landed.  We're told they had all been drinking on the flight and used a car service to take them home.  As for how the argument happened ... we're told it was about nothing.  One source said, "It was just dudes being dudes."  It escalated into a physical fight.  A rep for Guy said, "A bunch of guys were messing around.  Things got a little out of hand, but they're all good now."

Chris Brown has just entered a rehab facility for anger management issues ... presumably to deal with his temper problems and to blunt a possible prison sentence. Sources say Brown's attorney, Mark Geragos, just dropped him off at a facility in Malibu. The move doesn't come a day too soon.  We've learned the L.A. County probation department is going full bore in its investigation to determine if Brown violated his probation in the Rihanna case by getting arrested in D.C. over the weekend ... after allegedly punching a guy in the nose.  Sources say Brown flew to L.A. after getting released from the D.C. jail and met with L.A. County Probation Department officials.  We're told it's likely the Probation Department will determine that Brown violated his probation, and a judge could sentence him to as much as 4 years in prison.  Along with Geragos, we're told his mom and GF Karrueche accompanied Chris to the facility. The rehab move could show a measure of good faith and contrition.

Mike Tyson did an interview yesterday and talked about Chris Brown's situation, with these new assault charges and the possibility that his probation might get revoked.  Sounds like Chris reminds him of someone else he knows.  Tyson says Chris needs to get it together and stop getting in fights, or they'll put him in prison.

There's a new rumor that they're bringing back "The Osbournes" to TV.  But if you can believe Sharon, there's no truth to it. Yesterday on "The Talk" she said there are no plans for new episodes.

Dax Shepard told Jimmy Kimmel on Monday, Oct. 28 that he is the "luckiest man in America" now that he can finally call Kristen Bell his wife. The gay rights advocates, who prolonged their engagement to three years until after the Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act, wed at the Beverly Hills County Clerk's Office in a simple ceremony on Oct. 17. So simple that it cost the parents to 7-month-old baby Lincoln, a paltry $142! And that included gas. "It was just Kristen and I at this lonely courthouse so they brought us this cake afterwards," Shepard explained on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Rather than a nice celebratory "Congrats lovebirds!" scrawled across the cake, the confection read, "The World's Worst Wedding."

The proud newlywed wasn't offended. In fact, he proudly exclaimed, "How many people can say they threw 'The World's Worst Wedding?'"  The Parenthood star, who attended Jimmy Kimmel's more traditional July 13 star-studded wedding to Molly McNearney in Ojai, Calif., said the comedian's lavish nuptials inspired his cost-effective ceremony. "There were helicopters overhead. It felt like an episode of M*A*S*H," he recalled of Kimmel's big day. "Not that I was counting your money, but I was counting your money at this thing. It was flying out the windows. They were setting it on fire at this place!" Shepard then found his solution: "So we went to the Beverly Hills Courthouse, and all in, with fuel to get there, $142 out the door."

A new biography on Jack Nicholson that hit stores yesterday claims that Jack and Meryl Streep were DOING IT on the set of the 1987 movie "Ironweed".  BIG TIME.  The book says, quote, "Often during shooting, his Winnebago seemed to be balanced on four overworked Slinkys."  The book also quotes an old newspaper gossip item from 1987 that said, quote, "Whatever is going on inside that Winnebago it's starting to get out of hand, to the point where it's embarrassing a lot of people on the set"

NBC just put out a promo for their live production of "The Sound of Music", starring Carrie Underwood.  It'll be performed and broadcast live on December 5th.

David Letterman talked last night about President Obama getting his Facebook page hacked by Syrians.  He says Obama asked them if they could fix the Obamacare website.

Jay Leno talked about a new survey of the scariest Halloween movies.  He says the scariest movie for women was "The Exorcist".  For men it was "The Notebook".

"Duck Dynasty" and Walter White from "Breaking Bad" are the most-searched celebrity (slash) pop culture Halloween costumes on Yahoo.  Here's the Top 10 . . .

1.  "Duck Dynasty"
2.  Walter White
3.  Other "Breaking Bad" costumes
4.  Katniss Everdeen from "The Hunger Games"
5.  Michael Myers from "Halloween"
6.  Zombies
7.  Minions  (Those little yellow pill-shaped guys from the "Despicable Me" movies.)
8.  Miley Cyrus
9.  Minecraft
10.  "Fifty Shades of Grey"

Crock Pot Banana Bread Quinoa

Ingredients:

1 cup of quinoa (I used Bob’s Red Mill)
1/2 cup of Seasonal Coffee-mate Warm Cinnamon Sugar Cookie *
1/2 cup low-fat milk
1 cup water
1 1/2 banana (past ripe)
2 tablespoons chopped walnuts
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons butter, melted
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

*NOTE! If you can’t find that kind of creamer or you’d prefer to use something else, substitute light cream and add about 1 – 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon.

Directions:

Mash the banana in a bowl and set aside. In another bowl, mix the brown sugar and walnuts together.

Pour quinoa, creamer (or light cream), milk, water, butter and vanilla into the crock pot. Add the mashed banana and stir to evenly distribute. Sprinkle the sugar and walnut mixture into the quinoa and stir to mix.

Cook on low for 4 – 6 hours, or until the quinoa is fully cooked. If you need to, add additional liquid or sugar to the mixture for taste.

Serve warm and garish with slices of banana!

Crock Pot Cherry Cola Chocolate Dessert

1/2 cup cola
1/2 cup dried cherries
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup chocolate milk
1/2 cup butter, MELTED
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Topping:

1 1/4 cups cola
1/3 cup sugar, granulated
1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
2 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
1/4 cup dark rum
Vanilla ice cream

Directions:

In a small saucepan, bring cola and dried cherries to a boil.

Remove from heat; let stand for 30 minutes.

In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, chopped chocolate, baking powder, and salt.

Melt butter in microwave, add the chocolate milk and vanilla; stir into dry ingredients just until moistened.

Fold in cherry mixture.

Line a three quart slow cooker with liner or coat with cooking spray.

Pour mixture into slow cooker.

For topping, in a small saucepan, combine the cola, sugar, and brown sugar.

Cook and stir until sugar is dissolved.

Remove from the heat; stir in chocolate and rum until smooth.

Pour over cherry mixture; do NOT stir. This was very liquidy (sorry about the new word) but it works out.

Put a sheet of paper toweling between the slow cooker and lid to absorb the condensation. I changed mine once during the 2 hours.

Cover and cook on high for 2 to 2 1/2 hours or until set. Mine was set in 2 hours BUT I have an old crock pot.

Turn off the heat; let stand for 30 minutes.

Serve warm with ice cream and maraschino cherries.

Thanks to Food.com for this sugar explosion!

Review: 2014 Subaru Forester

I spent some time wondering how best to describe the new Forester, and I finally realized that it’s like dating and marriage. Be patient, the analogy will make sense in a moment.

We all remember the hot girl/guy in high school or college, the one that everyone ogled and dreamed about. Yet too often these gods turned out to be more trouble than they were worth. Meanwhile, your best friend married the guy/girl who wasn’t all that flashy, and yet they’ve been happily married - and loving life - for years and years.

That’s the Forester. It’s not the sexiest crossover/SUV in the market, but it might just be the best buy for the money. Motor Trend seemed to think so, too; they named it their 2014 SUV of the year.

I found out why during the week I drove the 2.5i Touring edition, one of six different trim sizes available. The Forester is a champ in so many different areas.

Start with the interior. The designers at Subaru have upgraded the materials, making the ride comfortable and eye-appealing. No, it’s not a Mercedes or Lexus, but you’re also paying about half the money. Believe me, the interior is quite nice.

The controls are laid out well, and intuitive enough that you grasp everything right away. Visibility is very good, as is storage up front. In the back seat your adult passengers will be pleasantly surprised at the space. Subaru added almost four inches of leg room, and made sure that the rear seating provides its own nice view.

This SUV always had a good storage capacity in the back, but that’s been bumped up, too. With the rear seats folded you’ll find nearly 75 cubic feet in which to store your bike, snowboard, or camping gear. The power liftgate makes it convenient too.

The Forester is powered by a boxer engine that provides plenty of get-up-and-go, thanks to its continuously variable transmission (CVT). In Colorado we’re crazy about our All-Wheel-Drive vehicles, one of the reasons all of the Subaru models do so well here. The Forester’s AWD handles extremely well, and with a higher ground clearance than most competitors, you can even brave the off-road with confidence. Or, more likely, you’ll appreciate the clearance when your driveway is covered with snow.

But perhaps Subaru’s greatest claim to fame is its commitment to safety. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has awarded Subaru its highest honor, for a variety of reasons. One of the most interesting is an option known as EyeSight.

It’s hard to condense all of EyeSight’s accomplishments into two paragraphs, but I’ll try.

Imagine two cameras mounted near the rear-view mirror. They carefully monitor the traffic ahead of you, and EyeSight can not only alert you to someone stopping quickly or swerving into your lane, it can actually apply the brakes. The car might know before you do that danger is ahead.

Besides pre-collision braking and throttle management, it also includes adaptive cruise control. That allows you to maneuver through the constantly-changing speeds of nearby cars without you having to constantly hit the brake/resume. And a lane departure warning lets you know if you’re drifting. You'll find a video at the end of this link that explains all of it.

On top of it all, the Forester offers increased fuel economy (thanks to the CVT). The 2.5i Touring version that I drove has a combined rating of 27 mpg. And this SUV won’t bust your bank account, either. With base models starting in the low 20s, my upgraded 2.5i rolled in just over $33k.

For an award-winning, reliable, and extremely safe vehicle that’s even fun to drive, I call it a remarkable bargain. If you’re in the market for a crossover or SUV that performs very well in Colorado, the Forester would be a great place to start looking.

The Jane Report

Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day just finished an album with Norah Jones.  It's a COVER of a cover album.  They remade the whole Everly Brothers album "Songs Our Daddy Taught Us", song for song.  They're calling it "Foreverly". The album will be out on November 25th.

This isn't the least bit surprising if it's true:  Kim Kardashian reportedly knew Kanye West was going to propose, and she even told him what jeweler to go to for her ring. Kanye supposedly designed the 15-carat ring, but Kim told him to use Lorraine Schwartz, the same jeweler who made the ring Kris Humphries gave her. Her first ring was estimated to be worth around $2 million, but Kris got a deal because of all the publicity the ring was going to get.  He only had to pay about $250,000 for it.  And he recently sold it for about $750,000.  As for the Kanye ring, we've heard varying reports of its worth from $1.25 million to $3 million, all the way up to $6 million.  But once again, Lorraine Schwartz was willing to sell it for cheap in exchange for the press.  Kanye reportedly paid less than half a million for it.  And he made sure it was BIGGER than Kim's last engagement ring.

Bruce Jenner was NOT invited to AT&T Park when Kanye West popped the question to Kim Kardashian ... in fact, he had no idea his step-daughter was getting engaged until AFTER the fact. Family sources say Bruce and Kanye have never had a "real conversation."  As we previously reported, Bruce was not happy when Kim hooked up with Kanye so quickly after she left Kris Humphries.    We're told Kanye is the one who planned every detail of the surprise proposal.  We do not know exactly why Bruce was not invited -- whether it was because of Kanye or because of Bruce's separation from Kris.  What IS known is that Bruce didn't even know Kanye was popping the question until he got a call from Kim immediately after she got engaged.   We're told Bruce was Kim's first call, because Kim considers him to be her father.

Madonna has rid herself of her massive Beverly Hills estate, the one she bought during her marriage to Guy Ritchie, and she pocketed a cool $8 MILLION in the process.  Madge had only listed the property back in January for $22.5 mil ... and just 10 months later, real estate guru Kurt Rappaport closed the deal for $20 mil. Not bad considering she bought the place in 2003 for $12 mil.  Real estate sources say the lucky guy who scooped up the pad is a Wall St. big shot.  The mystery buyer is clearly a fan of privacy 'cause the 17,000 square foot property is incredibly secluded -- with a 500 foot tree-lined driveway, and massive trees covering the perimeter of the estate.  The home is insane -- with 15 bathrooms, 9 bedrooms, a 2-story dining room, pool, movie theater tennis court and a gym -- 'cause as we all know, Madge LOOOVES to pump iron.  So, where's Madonna gonna live now? We're told Madge is on the hunt for a smaller place in L.A. But don't worry about her, she's still got massive properties in London and New York.

Dina Lohan had a hearing in her DUI case this week.  And it sounds like she might be in a lot of trouble.  Her attorney Mark Heller plans to defend her by saying it was the MEDIA's fault that she drove drunk.  He literally says he has an expert opinion that Dina was forced over the edge by the constant paparazzi attention and negative portrayals in the media, and she coped by drinking and driving.

Last night on "The Colbert Report", Stephen sat down and tried to sign up for Obamacare.  It was pretty hilarious.  The woman helping him is a Health Care Navigator.  They're private citizens with special training whose job is to help people figure out how to get insurance through Obamacare.  It's a free service, paid for by government grants. Stephen desperately tried to get the woman to take down his sexual history.

Diddy just did an interview where he said he plans to be the first African-American owner of an NFL team.  Think about it, there has never been one before.  Every time you watch a game and they focus on that old guy with glasses in the luxury box, he's white.  Diddy could have a shot.  The least valuable team in the NFL is worth about $825 million, so to be the majority owner Diddy would have to come up with at least $413 million.  And one estimate has Diddy's net worth at $580 million.

Last night on Duck Dynasty, they were talking Halloweed.  Jase had a problem because his wife wanted to wear matching costumes with him.  He told her that's against the rules of being a man.  He says it starts with matching sweaters, and eventually becomes something much worse.
