The Jane Report

May 17th, 2012 by Jane

Forbes revealed its annual Celebrity 100 list Wednesday, and Jennifer Lopez lands in the top spot for 2012 — ousting Lady Gaga, who claimed the title in 2011. Forbes compiles its annual Celebrity 100 list by looking at both the pretax income (from May 1, 2011 to May 1, 2012) and fame of Hollywood’s biggest and brightest stars — meaning how often we see their names and faces on TV, in movies and online, as well as their social media following. Taking all of that into consideration, Lopez is sitting pretty atop the high-powered list, and it’s no surprise, especially after the banner professional year she’s had. According to Forbes, Lopez brought in $52 million in earnings over the past year, and when that’s added to her star power, it’s clear to see she’s no longer just a singer — she’s a brand, and has ample avenues to promote her various endeavors. Trailing behind Lopez is Oprah Winfrey, who brought in a whopping $165 million in the past year. She may have ended her talk show in 2011, but she has continued to create headlines thanks to her OWN cable network — though she may not have the everyday media presence Lopez seems to command. Justin Bieber lands at No. 3 on Forbes’ list and while he’s only 18 years old, it’s no surprise that the entertainer and mogul-in-training — he made $55 million in the last year — made the cut. After all, he makes hundreds of millions of young fans scream on a daily basis.  Rihanna and Lady Gaga round out the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, respectively, on Forbes’ 2012 list. Other stars making the Celebrity 100 list include first-timers Kim Kardashian (No. 7, with $18 million and lots o’ divorce drama), Khloe Kardashian (No. 73, with $11 million and a popular reality show) and the one and only Ashton Kutcher, whose personal divorce drama and professional gain with a role on “Two and a Half Men” helped him land on the list for the first time at No. 51, with $24 million in earnings.

The Jane Report

“The Dictator” opens today, and it stars Sacha Baron Cohen as General Aladeen . . . a Middle Eastern dictator who ends up living in New York when his country becomes a democracy.  It also stars Ben Kingsley, Megan Fox, John C. Reilly and Anna Faris from the “Scary Movie” films.  There’s a scene where General Aladeen talks about women’s education to Anna Faris.  He said it’s like seeing a “monkey on roller skates, because it “means nothing to them, but it’s so adorable for us.”

Review: 2012 Toyota Prius

May 14th, 2012 by Dom

2012prius

Toyota got an early start in the hybrid game, and as any marketing whiz will tell you, being first is sometimes as good as being the best. The Prius, now entering its third generation, makes a case for both: first and best.

Not that everything’s perfect in Hybrid World, but I’ve watched the funny-looking car grow through the years, and after cruising around in a tangerine-colored edition, I can share a few thoughts with you… Read the rest of this entry »

The Jane Report

Madonna isn’t called a “Material Girl” for nothing. Here’s a breakdown of what she’s poised to pocket in 2012 — it could be as much as $500 million in one year alone.
- $300 million from her MDNA World Tour. Live Nation announced $240 Million in ticket sales before a South American leg was added, which could earn an additional $40 million-plus. An Australian leg of the tour is being announced shortly.
- Industry insiders say $75 million in tour merchandise sales is not unlikely. This has always been a huge moneymaker for Madonna, who will have an even bigger spread of merchandise available at her upcoming shows.
- $60 million is expected in sales for her new perfume, Truth or Dare, according to Women’s Wear Daily.
- Insiders report that Madonna made $10 million from her recent deal with Smirnoff. The company has been hyping her tour with TV spots and has just released a special “Madonna” edition bottle of their vodka.
- The Queen of Pop is hoping to rake in $10 million in TV and DVD worldwide rights for the broadcast of her upcoming tour.
- Retail experts say Madonna will earn $5 million in 2012 from her “Material Girl” clothing line and upcoming Macy’s lingerie line.

The Jane Report

May 11th, 2012 by Jane

Everyone’s been talking about how come Kanye West attended Monday night’s Met Costume Institute Gala, sans his girlfriend, Kim Kardashian. Could there be trouble in the romance already? Not so, says a report. Instead the story is that Anna Wintour, host of the event and responsible for hand picking every celebrity at the event, banned Kim from the event. According to Radaronline, the Vogue editor-in-chief, specifically made it an issue to not let Kim be
there. Kardashian had tweeted just hours before the ball, “So excited to see all the fashion going on in New York tonight at the MET!” That comment led many to believe Kim was going to the party where the ticket is $25,000 each, but it is understood that she wasn’t even allowed to buy ticket. Says a source, “Kim and her camp will deny that she wasn’t invited by saying that she had business in LA, but that’s not true…”
